Keetmanshoop Rural charity cup is on

NAMPAThe village of Aroab will this weekend host the first edition of the annual Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency charity tournament.The tournament will take place at the Aroab sport stadium from Saturday to Tuesday and will see teams from the Namibia Football Association’s first and second divisions and non-league teams taking part.Keetmanshoop Rural constituency councillor Gertjie Witbooi, who is one of the organisers of the tournament, told Nampa on Wednesday that the tournament serves as a fundraising activity and the money raised will buy mattresses and blankets for the vulnerable and pensioners in the constituency.“We want to raise some money to buy these things for our people that are vulnerable and those unable to buy blankets as winter is approaching,” he said.According to Witbooi, teams from places such as Keetmanshoop, Bethanie, Berseba, Karasburg, Ariamsvlei, Noordoewer, Aroab, Koës and Gochas are expected to participate in the tourney.He said so far 27 football teams and nine netball teams have registered.The football winner will receive N$25 000 in cash, a floating trophy and 20 gold medals. The runners-up will walk away with N$15 000 and 20 silver medals, while the semi-final losers will receive N$5 000 each.The player of the series, goalkeeper of the series and top goal scorer will each receive N$1 000.The winners on the netball side will walk away with N$6 000 and a floating trophy, the second-place winners will receive N$3 000 while the team in third place will walk away with N$1 000.
