Keeping it real
It is a new year, and young people in the creative industry are excited to continue pursuing their dreams. I do not intend to start the year on a negative vibe, but I think it is important we are honest with ourselves.
The entertainment business in Namibia is still in its infant stages and not a lot of creatives are making a living solely from show business. I recently had a conversation with a friend who shared with me that there is a big difference between a passion (what you love) and trading skills or knowledge for money. In this piece, I would like to urge fellow creatives to explore streams of income outside show business.
It is fine to be dedicated to pursuing your dreams, but if you cannot sustain a livelihood and acquire what you desire, you are always broke and constantly stressed by the same thing you claim is your calling, then you need to revaluate your life. Chase your dreams yes, but have other means of income because the show business is cruel.
