The Katutura Sport Union (Kasu) Winter Cup is expected to produce high-quality football and netball games, president Kuveri Tjonga has said.

The competition, which will pit local teams against each other, will take place on 5 and 6 June.

The games will continue on the weekend of 12 and 13 June at the Wanaheda sports grounds.

Teams involved in the tournament usually represent different communal areas and residential areas around Windhoek.

“I believe that we still have to keep the game of football alive and there is no better way than giving those local guys a chance.

“The fact that there is a bit of football movement is actually a good thing as we saw some league teams in action. “The Kasu tournament will just give the league teams options to come and scout the players they might need,” Tjonga said.

The team that wins the football competition will take home N$10 000 accompanied by a trophy and gold medals, while the team that loses in the final will receive N$5 000. The two semi-final losers in the football category will be compensated with N$2 500 each.

The netball winners will get N$5 000, a trophy and gold medals, while the team that loses in the final will take home N$2 500.

Teams that bow out at the semi-final of the netball category will be rewarded with N$1 250 for their efforts. Registration for the tournament costs N$1 900 if a team is entering for both codes, and N$1 000 for only one code.

“I am excited and ready to host this big competition for the players that are hungry for football.

“The draw will take place on 2 June at the St Barnabas Primary School at 18:00.”
