The Namibia Football Players Union has been hit by tragedy after two of its members, Lolo Goraseb and Olsen Kahiriri, suffered injuries on different occasions.

Nafpu president and former Brave Warriors midfielder Sylvester ‘Lolo’ Goraseb sustained stab wounds when his Toyota Fortuner was hijacked last week.

The union’s secretary-general, Olsen Kahiriri, was involved in a car accident last Sunday. Kahiriri sustained broken ribs and his daughter, who was travelling with him, has been in a coma.

“It is something very strange for us because we have been hit by tragedy at the same time.

“Nafpu will however continue to be there for the rights of players even if we had gone through these troubles.

“I am recovering well and all I hope for is for my daughter to get well soon,” Kahiriri said.

Kahiriri said Goraseb has been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home

He said Goraseb’s attackers put obstacles in the road to slow him down before attacking him.

He said the union was shocked to hear about the hijacking.

“It is very shocking to hear of such acts, but we are happy that he is in a stable condition and wish him a speedy recovery,” he said.

A police spokesperson, Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi, confirmed that Goraseb had opened a case of robbery.

“We will launch an investigation to determine what happened. At the moment it’s a little bit sketchy but the case of robbery that was opened will be investigated,” she said.
