Namibian athletes are gearing up for the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon, which takes place on 23 September.

In the mix of local athletes is Commonwealth Gold medallist Helalia Johannes, who recently won the Old Mutual Victory Races series, as well as Tomas Reinhold, Kugongelwa Uveni-Nawa and Anna Amutoko, who all train under coach Robert Kaxuxwena.

Kaxuxwena said he does not like speaking to the media before his athletes take part in running events.

Last year, the women's race was won by Ethiopian Betelhem Moges Cherenet in a time of 2:30:28, while Johannes clinched second in 2:30:28 and third spot went Kenyan athlete Agnes Jepkembo, with a time of 2:31:00.

The men's category was won by Ethiopian Asefa Mengstu Negewo in a time of 2:20:01, followed by Keteman Bekele in 2:11:06. In third place was Kenyan Duncan Maiyo, in a time of 2:11:26.
