The Sparrow-Parow confusion did not upset South African rapper Jack Parow. In fact, he even tweeted tongue-in-cheek about it.

The Namibian police were looking for a South African, Lenard Pelley, and Daniella Beukes, this past weekend after Pelley allegedly assaulted Beukes's boyfriend. According to the Walvis Bay police station, her boyfriend filed a case of burglary with intent to assault, as well as an assault case.

Beukes's boyfriend reported her missing after she had disappeared with the suspect.

Pelley also allegedly stabbed and assaulted another friend of Beukes in the stomach.

Police arrested the missing couple on Sunday morning at Oshikango in the Ohangwena Region after they received a tip-off from a member of the public.

Mistaken identity

The confusion began when the suspect, who is also known as Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp's character in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’), was mistakenly identified as the South African musician and rapper Zander Tyler, better known as Jack Parow.

On 18 April, the national news agency Nampa reported that the police were looking for "the South African musician Lenard Pelley, known as Jack Parrow, in connection with an alleged stabbing incident".

The national broadcaster, NBC, fell into the same trap and on Monday posted the report "South African musician Jack Parrow arrested at Oshikango" on their website.

The error even reached the real Jack Parow, who at least noticed the humour in this situation and shared a screenshot of the NBC report on his Facebook and Instagram pages.

“It's with ONE R @nbcnamibia // Streetcred level up // Slide into my DMs ... prison is lonely. Zander aka Lernard OUT,” the singer wrote tongue-in-cheek on social media.

Even the Namibian rapper EES commented on this post and joked that Parow should just let him know if he should spring him from jail. “You know I am connected, mos.”

The NBC report has since been corrected.

Meanwhile, Pelley has been charged with housebreaking with intent to commit a crime, as well as assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

He appeared in the Walvis Bay magistrate’s court on Tuesday. The matter was postponed to 27 May pending further investigations.
