It feels good to be back home
Safari Court Hotel and Conference Centre recently celebrated its 50th birthday in collaboration with Radio Wave as they celebrated their 18th birthday too. The golden jubilee was celebrated in style as they had entertainment all the way from South Africa - the afro pop and jazz group Freshly Ground and our very own award-winning artist Gazza. The concert was held at Safari and it gathered masses of fans from near and wide and both young and old filled up the conference hall.
Freshly Ground has been in the industry for over ten years and their secret for success is simple. “We love our job and even though we go through good and bad times it’s still great to work with talented people you like and respect,” said the band.
Freshly Ground has gotten compliments from people like American President Barack Obama. What does that feel like? “For sure it motivates us; it’s great to get recognition especially from someone as prestigious as Barack Obama. With positive reinforcement, be it from fans or heads of states comes the notion that our work is reaching people and making a positive impact. It all registers and drives us to carry on doing what we do,” said Freshly Ground.
The pop group’s last album ‘Take Me To Dance’ was released in 2013 and since then, they have been releasing singles here and there. They however promised a banging album soon. “We are busy with one at the moment and it’s sounding great. It’s like us but with more experience. We are experimenting more with guitars and electronics,” said the team.
Asked as to how they have remained together and strong for over ten years since lot of groups break up after several years of being together, the group said it’s about knowing what you want in life that keeps them going. “We do plan to continue. Our lives have changed and everyone in the band is now busy with multi-layered lives but we all enjoy Freshly Ground and it’s a great part of all our lives,” they said.
Freshly Ground thanked the crowd for coming out on a cold winter night to enjoy the night with them. “We love Namibia. The people, the landscape and the peace within it. It is home away from home.”
