Isaacks first to play in PSL this season
WINDHOEK-SPORT REPORTER
South Africa's Premier Soccer League (PSL), where a number of Namibian footballers ply their trade, started its 2013/2014 season over the weekend.
The first game started on Friday, as defending league champions Kaizer Chiefs managed a 1-0 win over the newly-promoted Mpumalanga Black Aces.
But after two days of action, only one Namibian had featured for their team, with Heini Isaacks getting a starting berth at Maritzburg United.
Isaacks, who seems to have recovered from a niggling groin injury, was in the thick of things in the 30th minute of his team's clash against Polokwane City on Saturday evening.
The midfielder got a chance to score when his teammate Reuben Cloete delivered an inch perfect cross to the back post, but Isaacks failed to convert when it looked easy to score.
That proved to be his last meaningful contribution to the game, as he was substituted at half-time.
His compatriot, Virgil Vries, meanwhile, had to once again be satisfied with only a place on the United bench.
In an earlier kickoff, neither of University of Pretoria's (aka AmaTuks) Namibian midfielders, Ronald Ketjijere and Petrus Shitembi were part of the team's match day squad that took on Moroka Swallows.
Ketjijere is still easing his way back from injury while reports suggest that Shitembi is likely to only predominantly feature in the team's home matches.
Another Namibian, in Henrico Botes - provided he is injury free - was expected to feature for Platinum Stars in a match against Bidvest Wits yesterday while the rest of the Brave Warriors contingent will only play in midweek when Orlando Pirates, where Rudolf Bester plays, takes on AmaZulu, which is home to Willem Mwedihanga, Pineas Jacob and Sadney Urikhob.
