Intamba to be buried at Heroes' Acre
President Hifikepunye Pohamba has bestowed the honour of a hero’s burial on Namibia's ambassador to Egypt, the late Andrew Anyanya Intamba.
Intamba, 67, died on Tuesday at the Rhino Park private hospital in Windhoek.
In a media statement issued on Friday, Presidential Affairs Minister Albert Kawana said Pohamba had conferred the status of national hero on Intamba, and directed that all flags in Namibia should be flown at half-mast for the mourning period from tomorrow until Thursday, when the funeral will be held at the Heroes' Acre in Windhoek.
A memorial service will be held at the Parliament Gardens on Wednesday.
Intamba, a former Central Intelligence Service director, was appointed as Namibia's first ambassador to Egypt in 2008.
At the time of his appointment, President Pohamba described Intamba as a tested cadre who dedicated his youth to the Namibian liberation struggle as a combatant of the People's Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN), Swapo’s former military wing.
In 2007, Pohamba also conferred the honorary rank of Army Colonel on Intamba during the 31st commemoration of the launch of Namibia' armed struggle for his contribution as a former PLAN Field Commander.
He is survived by his wife Johanna and five children - four girls and a son.
