Michelline Nawatises Christine Venter grew up in a small town, and started working full-time as a teenager, spending time in various industries – from restaurant service to retail and courier service to mining. She studied journalism and communication at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST). During their experiential learning term, the only media job she could find was in radio. “The bug bit me immediately, and I just happened to be decent enough at it to make a career out of it,” she said.Venter is a product and campaigns development manager at Future Media. She helps and supports anything and anyone in the company with whatever they need – regardless of department or brand. “My unofficial title is ‘chaos co-ordinator’. But it always comes down to creating great listener experiences on our stations, and getting tangible results for our clients,” she said.Venter’s biggest challenge has been and is a very personal one: Combatting ‘impostor syndrome’. “It can be a great driver to constantly improve and work hard, but I must be very self-aware so that it doesn’t turn into motivation-killing anxiety,” she said.She is proud of where she started out – listening to the Waking Crew on Radiowave, promising herself she would be on that show one day, and then actually co-anchoring it for seven years. It was the real start of her career and showed her that she can accomplish what she sets her mind to.Venter said she deals with a variety of challenges and projects which extend across their different departments and brands. “On any given day, I could be helping with sales proposals, co-ordinating operational projects or supporting the programming teams with various tasks,” she said.She further added that she loves a good challenge. “I love coming up with creative concepts and seeing them through the entire process from conceptualising to it going out on air – and being rewarded with happy listeners and clients. The creativity of the human mind inspires me!”The ‘chaos coordinator’ is currently studying project and brand management, and hopes to use it as a springboard to go deeper into business administration and management.
