Indongo Group enters new age

One of the country''s longest-established locally owned conglomerates, the Frans Indongo Group, this week ushered in a new era of transformation and a new brand identity. Guests at the brand launch event on Thursday included Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, Founding President Sam Nujoma, and the group founder and sole owner for well over 40 years, Frans Aupa Indongo. In recalling the company''s unique history, the chairman of the Frans Indongo Trust, Dr Solly Amadhila, noted how Indongo had opened his first shop in his own building in 1964. That business was to grow and branch out into various sectors of the local economy with Indongo as sole owner, until his decision in 2007 to appoint a board of trustees, a board of directors, and a chief executive officer. The decision, Amadhila said, was based on the founder''s vision for the company to succeed beyond his personal existence. “He had a very specific dream. That this company must last beyond me,” Group CEO Van Graan said. The brand revamp completes the transformation started in 2006, the company said, complete with a new slogan: ''Shape Today. Own Tomorrow''. Founding President Nujoma hailed Indongo as an inspiration to younger generations of entrepreneurs and encouraged local business owners to redouble their efforts to become profitable. “Many can learn from your story of humble beginnings and your courage to re-engineer your business to suit the economic times in which our country finds itself and the world at large,” Nujoma said. Indongo acknowledged Nujoma''s early support for his enterprise, which he credited as invaluable to its ongoing success. The Frans Indongo Group of Companies has shares in leading companies operating in the manufacturing and distribution, automotive, retail, property, farming, fisheries and hospitality sectors. Companies in which it holds shares include Bokomo Namibia, Tongaat Hulett Namibia, Wispeco Namibia, Frans Indongo Lodge, Protea Hotel Walvis Bay, Indongo Toyota, Hino Indongo and Grain Carriers Namibia.DENVER ISAACS
