Iipumbu and Haudano SSS winners of Old Mutual champs

Iipumbu Senior Secondary School (SSS) at Oshakati were the football champions of the 2014 Old Mutual Far North Championships that ended at the Oshakati Independence Stadium on Saturday. Iipumbu SSS (from the Oshana Region) took over from the Omusati Region-based Ashipala SSS that won the 2013 Old Mutual Far North Championships. The girls from Haudano SSS from the Omusati Region were crowned the champions in the netball competition of the 2014 championships, also on Saturday. Iipumbu SSS defeated the Oshikoto Region-based Uukule SSS 3-0 in the first match of the four-team competition before handing Nuuyoma SSS from the Omusati Region a 2-1 defeat in the final played on Saturday afternoon. Iipumbu SSS, as the champion in the football category, was awarded a floating trophy, gold medals, N$5 000, a photocopier and sport equipment. As the runners-up, Nuuyoma SSS took home silver medals, N$3 000, a laptop and sport equipment. The football team from Oshela SSS in the Ohangwena Region ended in third position after beating their counterparts from Uukule SSS 2-1 on Saturday. Oshela SSS received bronze medals, N$2 000 and sport equipment. The champion, runners-up and third-placed team in the netball competition received similar prizes to those of the football teams. Haudano SSS was the winner of the netball category, followed by Uukule in the second position and Gabriel Taapopi SSS (Oshana Region) in third place. Haudano SSS won the netball competition after beating Uukule SSS 49-24 in the final. Joram Ambunda of the Iipumbu football team and Lazrus Mungolo of the Haudano SSS netball team were declared the coaches of the tournament, while Jackson Johannes (Iipumbu SSS football team) and Letushila Hauwanga (Haudano SSS netball team) were named the best players of the tournament.
