I go in peace – Ndjoze-Ojo
While the nation pondered on who the new ministers and their deputies would be, high education deputy minister Dr Becky Ndjoze-Ojo has all but confirmed that she is out.
In a statement shared with Namibian Sun over the weekend, she said she is bowing out with her head held high.
Her confirmation of exit means she is not on President Hage Geingob's list of eight parliamentary nominees, which is yet to be announced.
Building the Namibian House
“I have put my brick in helping to build the Namibian House, especially in the sphere of education, the latter being my passion,” she said.
She was principal of St Paul's College – the first black person to serve in that position – when Geingob appointed her to the high education portfolio in 2015. She did not make the cut to parliament following Swapo's electoral college last year, and the party's unimpressive performance in the general election.
Consolidate and strengthen
“During [my] time at the ministry of higher education, training and innovation, and in consultation with minister Dr. Itah Kandjii-Murangi, we set out to consolidate and strengthen technical vocational education and training, to provide that needed balance between academic and vocational education,” she said of her work over the last five years.
“Thereto, and in line with the Harambee Prosperity Plan, we took regional visits to all the 14 regions to observe the situation on the ground and started building vocational training centres in regions where they did not exist.
Today, we have more VTCs.”
