Swakop Uranium today confirmed the death of one of its haul truck operators at Husab Mine after the heavy vehicle that he was driving crashed into the mining highwall. The driver was identified as Manfred Gaoseb. “The company’s emergency procedures were immediately activated by informing the Ministry of Mines and Energy and the Namibian police. Our industrial safety and occupational health personnel proceeded to the scene to assist the Namibian Police to carry out the rescue work,” the company said in a statement. “Formal investigations will be conducted by MME and the Namibian police and Swakop Uranium will provide full support. The directors of the company and all employees expressed our heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Mr Gaoseb.”
