Not a lot of men can admit that they catch feelings just like that. Then again, not every man is award-winning artist KK as he opens up to tjil about his relationship preferences, and on how men should love and treat their partners without compromising their feelings. With the omnipresence of intimate partner violence in Namibia, KK points out the importance of men realising that they too are human… with feelings. Tjil (T): How old where you when you got in your first relationship and what was that like? KK: I think I was 12 or so and I remember feeling like a boss every day because she was the most beautiful girl in school and she was mine. But I was a very shy kid back then so you can imagine the awkwardness.T: Have your parents/guardians ever spoken to you about relationships or girls? KK: Being raised by a single parent, my mom was always against the idea so I had to hide it from her because she knew I was going to be a little heartbreaker. T: What kind of environment did you grow up in, and would you say it played a role in who you are today as a man who values women and relationships? KK: I was raised by women, my grandmother, mom and aunts. I was raised with unconditional love and respect so that should tell you how much I value women.T: What are the things you value in a relationship? KK: Loyalty - it's not a relationship without it. Respect - there can be no love without respect and vice versa, otherwise it is a pointless and meaningless relationship. 3. Personality - this may be a cliché but it matters. I find beauty in all things and a beautiful personality equals a beautiful woman, hands down. 4. Booty - booty is life and life is booty, let's not lie to one another hahahaha. No jokes though. T: What is the formula for good communication in a romantic relationship? KK: Snapchat and Instagram DM lol. Honestly, you just need to prioritise one another because if you don't then clearly you don't care and you best believe, someone else will. T: Would you ever change yourself to suit your partner? KK: Probably in the past but not anymore. I wouldn't change for someone who might not even be there in the next few months. Be yourself because that should be enough.T: What do you say about gender-based violence and what would you advise those who don't know how to get out of a relationship that's abusive?KK: It's pathetic and sickening for a man to raise his hands for a woman. I don't know if it's a psychological thing, but women find it hard to leave these pigs. It just doesn't make any sense to me but, we as outsiders, also need to try and intervene and go the extra mile to help those in need.T: What would you say is your 'Bae-cation' destination locally and abroad?KK: Locally probably Sossusvlei and abroad should be Maldives. I really want to go there. T: If you could know something then that you know now what would you say it is?KK: Don't be selfish but don't put others before yourself. You need to be able to love yourself before you can love another. You should be your first priority.T: Lastly, when do you plan on popping the question and what space would you like to be in with your partner by then?KK: I'm a long way from that because it's one of the biggest commitments in life and should not be taken for a joke.
