//Karas football made history on Saturday when Nettie Cloete was elected as the first woman to head the sport in the region.

In the election facilitated by Fifa normalisation committee members Franco Cosmos and Gaby Ahrens, Cloete garnered nine votes against the seven of former chairperson Isak Frederick.

The previous league administrator, Collin Motinga, received one vote. Another candidate who ran for the chairperson role, Jims Christiaans, did not attend the meeting, while the vice-chairperson position went to Andries Wimmerth, who garnered 15 votes to the one of Vicentius Matthias.

Christiaans was also in the running for the vice-chairperson position along with Andreas Isaacs, who did not pitch up for the elections.

A single ballot was spoiled, while Orange Rangers from Noordoewer, Oranjemund Football Club and Spiders, also from Noordoewer, were absent. Seventeen teams participated in the elections.

Cloete said history was made in Namibian football and she is happy to have been entrusted to look after the football matters of the region.

“It is a big challenge, but a good one at the same time, which I am willing to tackle with both hands. We should know that it was the teams that voted me in and I pledge that we will work together to make our region great again, and bring it to the level it should be, which is to be best in the country,” Cloete said.

She urged all regional stakeholders to work with her to develop football.

“I am calling on all involved in football to support our region, so we can improve and bring much-needed development to the region. I am willing to make the time in the office worthwhile for the greater good of our region,” she added.

Other newly elected members are Suzel Cloete, Emrico Blaauw, Nelago Stephanus, Gabes Sheehama, Naldo De Klerk and Franklin Rhode.

Meanwhile, Khomas also held an extraordinary elective meeting on Saturday, where Peter Ndjulu was elected as chairperson and former chairperson Dawid Morgan was elected as vice-chairperson.

They were up against Lazarus Xoagub, Michael Kanundura and Pascal Haingura.

Other elected Khomas executive committee members are Abel Kantewa, Helga Kapuire, Presley van Neel, Malakia Sheyanena and Christoph Sheetekela.

The elective congress was facilitated by normalisation committee chairperson Hilda Basson-Namundjebo and Matti Mwandingi.
