A 52-year-old man died in a car accident on the B2 highway after a white Mercedes-Benz collided with the Erongo regional governor's official vehicle, a black Mercedes-Benz.
The incident took place on Monday evening a kilometre outside of Walvis Bay. According to the regional crime investigations coordinator in Erongo, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, the driver of the white Mercedes was trying to overtake another vehicle.
“The Mercedes-Benz was travelling from the Swakopmund direction towards Walvis Bay.
The man overtook a white Toyota Hilux pickup which was driven by a Namibian man.
“In this process the vehicle collided into a black Mercedes-Benz of the governor of the Erongo Region, which was driven by a 51-year-old man, who was alone in the vehicle at the time,” he said.
Iikuyu said the Hilux driver lost control and the bakkie veered off the road and rolled several times.
The owner of the Hilux, who was one of the passengers, Petrus Panduleni Nuukala (52), was fatally injured and died in the Walvis Bay State Hospital.
The other passenger was a 40-year-old man, who sustained chest and head injuries. He is reportedly in a stable condition.
The driver of the white Mercedes also sustained injuries and received treatment at the Swakopmund State Hospital.
Meanwhile, two men died after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned on the Aus-Keetmanshoop road on Sunday morning.
//Karas police crime investigations coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Chrispin Mubebo, said the deceased were identified as William Jansen and Renald Cornelius. Both were aged 30.
The incident occurred at around 05:00 about 110 kilometres outside Keetmanshoop.
“The vehicle left the road, ejecting both occupants.
“The cause is being investigated,” said Mubebo. The next of kin have been informed.
