Heavy rain expected in northern regions

The Namibia Meteorological Service has warned that heavy rainfall can be expected on Saturday in the Zambezi, Kavango, Oshikoto, Ohangwena and Otjozondjupa regions.
People living in these regions should take the necessary precautions.
It will remain hot to very hot in the extreme northwest and in the Karas Region. Mariental can expect a temperature of up to 40 degrees Celsius today.
Dam levels
Meanwhile, according to NamWater’s latest dam bulletin issued this week, the average level of Namibia’s dams stands at 49.9%, declining slightly from 50.5% the week before.
It is still higher than it was last season at this time, when the average level was only 37.4%%.
The level of the country’s dams dropped by 3.72 million cubic metres of water within a week.
In the central area of Namibia, the average dam level stands at 59.6%, compared to last season’s 56.8%.
In the South, the average level stands at 55.1% compared to last season’s 36.7%.
In the east of the country, the average dam level is 42.7%, which is only slightly more than last season’s 39%.
In other parts of the country the Omaruru Delta Dam in the Erongo Region and the Omatjenne Dam in the Otjozondjupa Region are empty, the same as last season.
The Olushandja Dam in the Oshana Region is 11.6% full, compared to last season’s 16.1%.
