International Boxing Organisation (IBO) super bantamweight champion Paulus 'El Jesus' Ambunda says his former business partner and promoter Nestor Tobias still owes him purse monies for three fights.'El Jesus' said Tobias has settled a N$78 000 lawyer's bill he was charged when he attempted to take Ambunda and Kiriata Kamanya to court.However, Tobias was yet to pay the N$57 000 in purse monies, Ambunda claimed.“He would say there is no money now, and just to silence you, he would give you something. I fought in Oshikango against Tsifhiwa Munyai and defended my IBO world title against Jason Cooper and he didn't pay me in full for all those fights and another one as well; he knows.“Before he left for the United States with Julius Indongo, I told him that I'm leaving. He said we will speak after he returns. When he got back he sent me N$13 000 and soon after that, he tried to meet with me so that we talk. I refused and told him I have left. He then started with court stories.“We were like brothers. I could ask for my money or go to the newspapers; we had gentleman's agreement, but he was not honest, like he is not honest now,” said Ambunda.Tobias said he does not owe any boxer money. “You can speak to my lawyer. We don't owe anyone money.”Last year Tobias filed an urgent court application against Ambunda and his then promoter, Kamanya, of the Salute Boxing Academy, with the hope of stopping the boxer from headlining the Otji Festival Boxing Bonanza held in Otjiwarongo.After hearing oral arguments in the matter, Judge Boas Usiku struck the application from the court roll, based on a finding that the Sunshine Boxing Academy did not show that its case had to be heard on an urgent basis or that it would suffer irreparable harm if the matter was to be heard in the normal course of the court's schedule.Ambunda went on to fight at the boxing bonanza and beat his opponent Tasha Mjuaji via a second-round knockout.Tobias was charged lawyer's fees of N$78 095.17, which according to a receipt seen by Namibian Sun were paid on 19 February this year.The parties were scheduled to meet in the High Court yesterday.The court roll stated the matter has been inactive for six months and that a decision would be made about whether to remove it from roll. Tobias lawyer, Kadhila Amoomo, clarified that the case was settled. He, however, added he is not aware of any monies owed to Ambunda, as he had not formally “charged” Tobias in connection with this.LIMBA MUPETAMI
