Swapo secretary-general Sophia Shaningwa has described the late Marco Hausiku as a man who stood against factionalism, saying her deputy was a unifier.
She made the remark on Saturday during a memorial service at Rundu in honour of the late Hausiku, who died after a long battle with Covid-19 on 26 August.
“He was a pillar in our organisation, Swapo. He was a unifier who knew no faction and he always said no to factions of Swapo party,” Shaningwa said.
“The passing of comrade Hausiku is a great loss for he was a dedicated leader who served Swapo then as per liberation movement and now as a party. We continued to learn from the late Hausiku and tapped from his wisdom.
“Comrade Hausiku was an extraordinary leader who served this party with discipline and fairness,” the secretary-general said.
“During his tenure as Swapo deputy secretary-general and rector of the party school, comrade Hausiku was a leader of note; humble and fair, considerate, wise and moulded and developed brilliant cadres through the party school.”
Hero’s funeral
Meanwhile, a series of memorial services were held in honour of the late Hausiku in Rundu where the speakers all hailed him as a caring father as well as a humble and unifying person who served the interest of the Namibian people.
President Hage Geingob has conferred a hero’s funeral to the late Hausiku, who is expected to be buried at Heroes Acre just outside Windhoek on Saturday.
