About 300 grade one learners who had not found space by the beginning of the academic year have now all been placed and will start lessons today.
This was confirmed by Oshana education deputy director Hilma Nuunyango-George, who told Namibian Sun yesterday afternoon that the region had about 50 parents still to assist for grade one admissions.
On Monday, the region revealed that placement for pre-primary, grade one and grade eight learners is a challenge especially in Ondangwa, Ongwediva and Oshakati.
“By the end of today [Wednesday] all the grade ones will have space. On Thursday and Friday, we will focus on the grade eights. As a region, we will make sure all learners have secured spaces by Friday, 14 January,” she said.
Back-to-school readiness
Nuunyango-George said all schools in the region are ready to commence with the new academic year, despite challenges posed by the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic.
She said schools were requested to set up resilient plans to prepare for this year at the end of last term, hence the readiness to commence with face-to-face learning.
The deputy director said all grade 11 learners in the region have been placed, adding that not all learners have been placed at the schools where they applied, but they have been placed within the field of study for which they applied.
Although some learners have applied to boarding schools, they could not be placed, as the region does not have sufficient hostel space, she said.
