Golden Spike series a hit
The second leg of the Narib Annual Golden Spike series took place at Windhoek's Independence Stadium on Saturday.
Many youthful athletes entered the competition, which was founded by reigning national 200m and 400m sprint champion Ernst Narib to aid athletes in bettering their times.
Without sponsorship, Narib said he organised everything from his own pocket because he wants to see the code grow in the country, as there are few athletic events currently taking place.
Athletes travelled from as far as Swakopmund and Rehoboth to take part in the event.
Two more legs remain, with the next event to take place at the Vineta Central Sport Stadium in Swakopmund on 27 April and the finale settled for 25 May in Windhoek.
Narib invites all registered athletic clubs, schools, international athletes and the whole community to participate and help with the series, which will serve as a platform for athletes to qualify for international competitions, such as the junior world champs and All-Africa Games, which will all be held later this year.
