Chritsine Mboma and Beatrice Masilingi’s coach, Henk Botha, is inviting Namibians to go and watch the Olympic stars and other athletes in action this weekend at the Independence Stadium.
Hot from their dream 2020 Olympics and other competitions, the global stars will grace the stadium with their presence.
For many upcoming athletes it will be a privilege sharing the track with Namibia’s elite sprinters in the 200 metres.
Botha is confident that the girls will give it their best even though it is still early in their pre-season campaign.
“Like I told the press before, this is just a pre-season preparation and we see this as part of our training and people must not expect good times for now.
“I would however like to invite the athletes to come in numbers to watch the other athletes in action as well.
“It is a two-hour event which will be worthwhile and so please let us see you there as you might get an opportunity for a photo or an autograph,” Botha said.
Last weekend at the Swakopmund Grand Prix, Mboma ran the 100 metres in a time of 11.25 seconds to win gold, while Masilingi scooped silver in a time of 11.37. Ndawana Haitembu took third place in 12:32.
This weekend’s event will start at 09:00 and is expected to finish at around 12:15.
The women’s 500-metre finals will be first on the card, followed by the shotput and long jump women’s finals.
The men’s discus throw final is slated for 09:30 as well as the high jump final.
The women’s 400-metre hurdles final will take place at 09:30, followed by the men’s final at 09:45.
The triple jump men’s final will be at 10:00 and the women’s javelin final is set for 10:00.
The 800 metres final for women will be at 10:30, followed by the men’s final at 10:45.
The heats and finals of the men’s and women’s 200 metres will take place between 11:00 and 12:00 before closing off with the 4x400 m relays for men and women.
Namibia Media Holdings will be broadcasting the event live on its social media platforms.
