Goals galore at SFC five-a-side tournament
Twenty teams entered the annual football tournament, which produced 260 goals from 58 games.

SWAKOPMUND
A youthful SFC III side outsmarted the experienced Sparta on penalties (2-0) in the Social Division final of the annual Swakopmund Football Club (SFC) five-a-side soccer tournament.
But all was not lost for the neighbouring Walvis Bay teams competing in the December soccer showpiece, with Atlantis I defeating Atlantis II (5-3) in the League Division.
Twenty teams entered the tournament, which produced 260 goals from 58 games, including the two finals.
Social Division final
Shemuel Nkosi intercepted a back pass by the Sparta goalie Phillipe Clara and opened the scoring (1-0) for SFC III. Georgi Kirov equalised (1-1) and Tyrone Mouton handed Sparta the lead (2-1). Just when Sparta thought that they had the win in the bag, Nkosi struck again and levelled the scores (2-2). His goal ensured that the match went into a penalty shootout which SFC III won (2-0).
To book their spot in the final, SFC III defeated SFC 34+ with 1-0. Pontasane Pomboro grabbed the winner for SFC III. Sparta defeated SFC Social with 4-1 in the second semi-final. Tyrone Mouton and Georgi Kirov found the back of the net for Sparta. Marcel Bass scored for SFC Social.
League Division final
Atlantis I raced into a three-goal lead with Revin Fisher opening the score and Gregory Auchumeb and Carlos Goseb also finding the back of the net.
Atlantis II then launched a concerted effort with Ivan de Wit and Hendrik Dietz getting onto the scoresheet (3-2) and trimming the deficit for Atlantis II.
Namibian U/23 international Steven Damaseb and Dillon Humphries added two more goals (5-2) for Atlantis I, before Miriam Hustadt (one of two female players in action at the tournament) rounded of the proceedings with a goal (5-3) for Atlantis II.
Osvaldo dos Santos, the Atlantis team manager, said the club used the tournament as preparation for the upcoming SFC Christmas Cup tournament.
"This was a practise run for us. We are going to work on our combinations and fitness and will be ready to give our best,” he said.
En route to the finals, Atlantis I defeated Teenagers 4-3. Rudolf Bester scored a brace for Atlantis, with Fisher Kalimba and Ice Katiti adding the other two goals. Dorian Nanuseb scored a brace for Teenagers and Wesley Nuwaseb added the third goal.
Atlantis II defeated Exelsior 4-1 in the second semi-final. Dillon Humpries scored two goals with Benito Humphries and Stevie Damaseb each adding a goal for Atlantis II. JD van Staden scored for Exelsior.
Low turnout
Gerald Günther, the head of sport at SFC, explained that due to the low turnout, it was decided to divide the teams into four groups of five each and that the top four teams would advance to the league section of the event, with the remaining teams competing in the social section.
“The turnout was not as expected and we had to mix things up. We played the tournament in one day. It was a decent tournament which produced good soccer for players and fans alike.”
Günther also paid tribute to the match officials.
“We cannot do without them. They have a tough job and we must respect them. Just as players can make bad passes, referees can sometimes make the wrong calls in a game.”
The SFC Christmas Cup tournament is expected to be played at the same venue from 27 to 29 December.
