Gendev FC warns Magic in Debmarine Namibia Cup
Gendev Football Club has set its sight to reach the quarterfinals when they clash with Tura Magic in the Last 16 of the 2017 Debmarine Namibia Cup at Kuisebmond Stadium in Walvis Bay on Saturday.
Gendev FC are writing remarkable history in Namibia football, having won the Erongo Preliminary Round of the Debmarine Namibia Cup earlier this year to reach the Last 32 and were lucky enough to get into the Last 16 after the withdrawal of their opponent.
Gendev FC administrator Luzaan Rossouw says they are proud of the club's achievement thus far and are preparing to cause an upset on Saturday when they take on cup favorites Tura Magic at 11:00.
“The whole company is proud of what the team has achieved in the shortest possible time. It has happened so fast and everyone is excited about it. Reaching the last 16 of such a major competition is by no means easy and we have been very lucky so far. We intend to use the luck together with the team's determination to beat Magic, they are a strong big side but we fear them not,” Rossouw said.
Rossouw said the Walvis Bay-based club is funded by Gendev Fishing Company and all players are employees at the company.
“The players have risen above the demands of being workers and play the game they love as well. They have taken up the challenge so well and the sky is the limit for this young club,” says Rossouw.
Tura Magic and Gendev FC will be the second game of the day as Touch & Go and Rundu Chiefs game kick off at 09:00. Try Again and Eleven Arrows will battle it out at 13:00 and at 15:00 UNAM FC and Mighty Gunners will go head to head at the Kuisebmond Stadium.
At Mariental, the Sport Stadium will have its first match at 11:00 as Outjo FC and Eastern Chiefs face off for a place in the quarter finals.
At 13:00 Civics and Young Beauties will meet and two hours later Young Chiefs and Bee Bob Brothers will take to the field for their battle. The final match of the round and of the day will be at 17:00 as Young African and Life Fighters clash at the Mariental Sports Stadium.
Tickets are N$20 and are available at Computicket at Shoprite and Checkers countrywide.
