Geingob inspects Covid situation at state hospitals

President Hage Geingob on Tuesday visited the Windhoek Central Hospital and Katutura State Hospital for inspection of the Covid-19 situation and oxygen levels at the two public hospitals.
The president’s visit to the hospitals follows a cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, during which matters pertaining to the Covid-19 situation in the country and measures to supply more oxygen and avail more beds for Covid-19 patients were discussed.
During his visit, Geingob inspected the 20-tonne oxygen supply tank stationed at the Katutura State Hospital which supplies oxygen to the isolation centre at the hospital and another oxygen tank supply that regenerates oxygen for 24 hours at the Central Hospital, produced locally by Afrox Gas Namibia.

Speaking to the media during his visit, Geingob said the country was currently experiencing the worst of the situation, which was never expected. He emphasised that curbing further Covid-19 infections is not a hospital battle but a matter of how individuals conduct themselves in terms of adherence to the preventative regulations.
“We are pleading with you for your own sake and for your own safety, take care of yourselves,” he said.
Asked whether he was pleased with what he has seen during his inspection, the president said he was satisfied with the measures that are currently in place.
“We had a very long cabinet meeting and I wanted to come and see the situation for myself and I am very happy,” said Geingob.

A doctor at the Katutura State Hospital, Dr Nelago Amagulu urged the public to stringently adhere to the Covid-19 preventative regulations, stressing that adherence is the best treatment.
Amagulu went on to say the situation in Namibia currently is not about whether a patient has medical aid or not, but rather about whether there is a bed available for them.
“What you can do for yourselves is strictly adhere to the measures and get vaccinated. The myths that are going around about the vaccines are just myths; we are seeing the numbers of cases and the recorded deaths, this thing is not a joke,” she said.
