Four nabbed after a break-in at Ondangwa

ONDANGWAPLACIDO HILUKILWA

The Namibian police have arrested four young men who are suspected of having broken into the Warthog Clothing shop at Ondangwa during the early morning hours of yesterday.
The suspected criminals used bricks to smash the front window of the shop located in the Punyu Complex in the town's main street, but they ran into trouble almost immediately.
Security guards on duty at Build It across the street noticed the suspicious movements and went to investigate. They surprised the burglars who were busy stealing all kinds of precious items.
The thieves acted quickly, speedily leaving the scene while one of the security guards fired off a few shots in an attempt to stop them.
The thieves dropped some of the stolen items behind the shop and disappeared.
The police was informed and a search operation was launched. The tracks eventually led to a house in the Omahenene informal settlement where four young men were found and arrested. A number of stolen items were also found there.
According to Ondangwa Police Station Commander, Chief Inspector Hafeni Antonius, one of the suspects has fresh injuries that matched evidence found at the scene of crime.
“He told us that he injured himself after supposedly falling off a moving vehicle, but we can see that the injuries were caused by barbed wire they jumped over while fleeing the scene of the crime,” he said.
The total value of the stolen items was not immediately determined, but police officers were confident that they have recovered the stolen items a few hours after the crime was committed.
Among the recovered items are expensive leather jackets, trousers, shirts and jerseys.
