Former cop arrested for growing dagga
A 27-year-old former police officer was arrested for the cultivation of dagga plants and the possession of ammunition without a licence at Ondangwa over the weekend.
According to the police, the man was arrested on Sunday after he was found in possession of four live rounds of ammunition and 14 empty cartridges for a pistol and an AK-47. Three plantations of cannabis believed to be his were also discovered.
In another incident, a 56-year-old man was arrested on Friday at the Sendelingsdrift border post after he was found in the possession of four suspected diamonds. The diamonds were found during a search of the vehicle in which he was travelling.
In another incident on Saturday at Okongo in Oshitishiwa village, a 15-year-old girl was raped by a 20-year-old man. It is alleged that he raped the girl in her bedroom. The man has been arrested.
Also on Saturday at Tsandi, a 65-year-old woman was hacked with a panga by a 45-year-old man. The woman sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Tsandi district hospital in critical condition. The suspect was arrested.
Two minors also drowned over the weekend. At Ondangwa, 12-year-old Tuyoleni Wilbard drowned in a water well on Saturday in Oshikweyo village.
In the other incident, nine-year-old Ndara Werner Vihemba drowned at Rundu in a river on Saturday. It is further alleged that the deceased and his aunt went to the river to fish. The body was retrieved by police divers on the same day.
