Fighting talk from Rundu Chiefs

Rundu-based Namibia Premier League (NPL) outfit, Rundu Chiefs are aiming to end this season’s first leg on 20 points to avoid fighting relegation in the second leg. The first leg of the 2015/16 NPL season will come to an end at the weekend when Game 14 and 15 of the NPL will be played in Rundu, Rehoboth, Oshakati and Windhoek. The second leg is expected to resume in late January next year. Currently Rundu Chiefs are at 13th position on the log with 14 points out of a 16 team league. This weekend, it is scheduled to play Tura Magic and UNAM at the Rundu Sports stadium on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Rundu Chiefs lost 1-0 to Black Africa at the Sam Nujoma Stadium last Saturday and on Sunday they lost 1-0 to Flamingo in Rehoboth. Speaking to Nampa yesterday, Rundu Chiefs coach John Sikerete said he is unhappy his team’s goal scoring conversion rate. But he is hopeful of ending the first leg of the season on a good note. “Currently, the team is playing good football but we lack that instinctive finishing. In all our games, we created a lot of goal scoring opportunities but failed to score. Over the past weekend when we played Black Africa, we could have won that game, but we did not score and then ended up on the losing side. “The same thing happened on Sunday against Flamingos. We created chances but couldn’t score and going into this weekend’s games, we just need to at least score and then collect the much needed six points to finish off the first leg on 20 points,” said Sikerete. He added that with the first leg going on a break, he plans on reinforcing his team over the holidays and to compete better in 2016. “During the off season, I will sign at least two strikers and possibly an attacking midfielder who can bring in the goals because we are currently not in a bad position. We need to do better than what we did in the first leg when the league resumes next year,” he stated. NAMPA
