Fifa NC is getting too comfortable

When Fifa appointed the Normalisation Committee (NC) it gave them a clear mandate of ensuring a smooth leadership change at Football House, but some of their decisions have me worried.

The committee's mandate is to run the affairs of the NFA until 31 May.

They are responsible for ensuring that NFA members organise elections for new executive committees.

The committee has faced several challenges in finding authentic representatives from the regions.

Hence, it has requested more time to oversee a change in leadership at the NFA.

I agree that the normalisation committee does have the right to request more time, but they should not get too comfortable and make irrational decisions on the day-to-day running of football affairs.

One example is the letter they sent to the NPL ordering it to reinstate Young African. Another is their recommendation to the NPL to cancel promotions and relegations for the 2018/19 season.

This was not received well by the premier league officials and almost caused a dispute between the NC and the Namibia Premier League.

The proposition of not having promotions and relegations did not sit well with many football fans.

The Young African matter is quite sensitive and has to be approached with caution.

Yes, there needs to be an appeals committee and a dispute resolution chamber, but I believe that it will take some time to establish them.

Luckily the two parties came to an agreement and the hopefully the harsh words they had exchanged in the heat of the moment will be forgiven.

The truth is that football teams deserve to be promoted and relegated for the sake of having a normal football season.

It is important to advise the committee that it must not repeat the same mistakes that the previous leaders of the football body made.

Its mandate is clear: it has to fix things and not create more complications similar to those created by the former NPL leadership.

What football needs is peace and unity and not another legal battlefield that can hamper the development of the game.

That is why I also advise the committee to speed up the process of transition and avoid getting too comfortable.

They must not get carried away by the travelling privileges because these surely do not belong to them.

Yes, most of the regions do not have constitutions in place and the committee will not be able to hold elections before that is sorted out.

That is why I urge the football regions to get their houses in order and speed up the election process.

I fear that the longer the normalisation committee holds on to power, the more unpopular it might become.

That is why I think it's important for the committee to do whatever it takes to complete the process and let people who have the right credentials lead the game.

I admit that the NFA has endured many troubles but one can't shy away from the fact that they did a good job.

It is up to whoever takes up positions in the executive and the presidency to lead with passion and desire to make Football House thrive again.
