Federations need permission: NSC

The Namibia Sport Commission (NSC) has announced that anyone planning to host sports events under stage four of the coronavirus emergency regulations will have to seek approval from its offices.
Under stage four, all sports events are permitted to resume, including contact sports which were prohibited under the first three stages.
However, the crowds at such events may not exceed 250 persons.
NSC directive
In a statement issued yesterday, the sport commission said: “It is required from all those who wish to host organised sporting events that involves mass gathering as per regulations to seek approval from NSC.
“This will ensure that the host federation or event organiser is in compliance with the coronavirus regulations and that other agencies can monitor the events.”
Other regions can approach offices
The NSC advised organisers in other regions to approach their regional sport offices if they wish to host events. Sport Commission chief administrator Freddy Mwiya believes it is a move that will limit the spread of the coronavirus during sport events.
Sanitise at all events
Sporting event organisers must ensure that all persons entering events are sanitised when entering facilities and their temperatures are checked.
A client register will be mandatory upon entry and at various subsections of the facility.
Organisers and personnel present at the event must observe all hygiene protocols as directed under the state of emergency.
“Showers to be opened, there should be dividers between cubicles and disinfected after usage.
“Lockers should be made available and regularly disinfected every 35 to 45 minutes.
“Social distancing communication must be visible around locker rooms and wet areas,” the statement reads.
Childcare facilities
The sports commission also requires organisers to follow safety protocols for children.
“Social distancing markers must be visible in play areas and children must be supervised,” it said.
