Factions divide Oshana football
A faction of football managers led by Phillip Dala is attempting to dethrone the Oshana regional football executive committee headed by chairperson Beatus Nandago.
This follows a consultative meeting held at the Oshakati Senior Secondary School on 21 April, which managers from ten of the 12 affiliated clubs reportedly attended.
The clubs are Foxy Senior, Poison Arrows, Oshakati United, Young Brave, African United, Oshakati City, Khuse, Onelago United, Pescanova and Vietnam Rangers.
Dala told Nampa recently he was elected during that meeting to serve as chairperson of an interim Oshana regional football executive committee after participants in the said meeting decided to overthrow the Nandago-led exco.
A letter issued on 23 April and addressed to Nandago, which is in possession of Nampa, referred to Andreas Amesho (vice-chairperson), Gabriel Linus (treasurer), Petrus Hauwanga (member), Ibrahim Ibrahim (member), Simeon Nghitumu (member) and Vilho Kalimba (member) as members of the interim exco.
“You (Nandago) and the executive members failed to attend the meeting, which was asked by the clubs, without any reason,” the letter read.
It further said Nandago and his exco were given notification in writing to attend the meeting, and participants deemed that the Nandago-led exco has no sense of concern with club issues and deserve removal.
Dala said the consultative meeting had three agenda items: feedback on the regional chairpersons meeting held during this year's Namibian Newspaper Cup in the Zambezi Region, the financial report on the Oshana football league and the upcoming Namibia Football Association presidential election.
“His (Nandago) absence at the meeting without a valid excuse has left us without an alternative than just to call for him and his exco to leave the office,” Dala said.
Approached for comment, Nandago described the consultative meeting as invalid and an unconstitutional platform.
Nandago pointed out that Dala and all of those who convened the meeting have no mandate from the clubs affiliated to the Oshana football league to come together to discuss regional football affairs.
“We remain the legitimate exco to administer football in our region and appeal to our affiliates not to be associated with elements that are attempting to confuse our members for reasons only known to them,” Nandago said.
