Executioner is 'world-class'

MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing Academy promoter, Nestor Tobias, said Walter 'Executioner' Kautondokwa has the potential to defeat an American boxer, and it's only a matter of time before he does just that.Tobias was speaking at a media conference held at the MTC headquarters in Olympia yesterday.Kautondokwa failed in his attempt to claim the vacant WBO middleweight title against Demetrius 'Boo Boo' Andrade this past weekend, losing via a unanimous points' decision in Boston, Massachusetts.It was his first professional loss and his record now stands at 18 fights, with 16 knockouts and one defeat.“Walter is a world-class fighter and he showed it in the ring. International commentary was in his favour and we also received calls from promotion stables interested in him, unlike Namibian comments, which were negative, but we appreciate all of them,” said Tobias.The promoter explained that in the first round Andrade punched Kautondokwa while he was on the canvas. “That punched killed him. He was dizzy thereafter, but the referee did not give the Namibian time to recover. Had he stayed down, Andrade would have been disqualified, but Kautondokwa went there to fight.”Tobias said the night before the fight nobody knew Kautondokwa or how to pronounce his surname, but now if you search for his name on the internet, he is well-known. Tobias said there are many American trainers who have never produced champions that can compare to Kautondokwa.He was responding to questions about whether international trainers should be roped in to boost Kautondokwa's performances.“With limited resources we have produced world champions, which means that we are doing something right.”Tobias also spoke about Paulus 'Hitman' Moses' retirement from professional boxing. Moses lost to Emmanuel 'Game Boy' Tagoe, also via a unanimous decision over 12 rounds, in their WBO Africa lightweight title bout in Accra, Ghana at the weekend.“It was written on the wall that he would retire soon. He felt it in his body that it was time to call it a day. He will now focus on his family and his job in the Namibian police and also look at ways to be involved in the development of boxing in the country.“He can either do that through the academy, the Namibia Sports Commission or the Namibian Professional Boxing and Wrestling Control Board; there are many channels,” Tobias emphasised. The promoter promised three more boxing tournaments before the end of the year.Kautondokwa said he is happy with his performance in America, even though the bout did not turn out in his favour. “Andrade was fighting in his backyard. I took the fight to him, even though things did not go my way. It's part of sport, but I have learned a lot from this fight; I know what to do and will come back stronger.”LIMBA MUPETAMI
