Exciting times
Newly appointed lecturer at the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the office is mainly concerned with awarding scholarships to college and university students from Namibia.It can also provide information about studying and research in Germany, and publishes brochures on these topics.

On 22 January 2021, Ellen Gölz, Deputy Head of Mission of the German Embassy, welcomed the new lecturer of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in Namibia, Julia Gambadatoun.
Mrs Gambadatoun already took up her post as DAAD-lecturer on 01 September 2020, however, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, had worked remotely from until the beginning of this year.
In her role as DAAD lecturer, Mrs Gambadatoun will hold courses at the UNAM Department and Literature Studies, German Section.
Apart from teaching at the university, Mrs Gambadatoun also coordinates DAAD activities – like consultation hours for students interested in studying in Germany and scholarship opportunities and career development workshops – at various educational institutions in Namibia.
DAAD Background
The DAAD all over the world supports tertiary education through scholarships, exchange programs and partnerships between scientific institutions.
The DAAD assists over 100,000 German and international students and researchers around the globe each year – making it one of the world’s largest funding organization of its kind.
It also promotes internationalization efforts at German universities, helps developing countries build their own systems of higher education and supports German Studies and German language programs abroad. The DAAD has been funding around 110 Namibian postgraduate students and researchers per year for more than 20 years.
For Namibia, the DAAD offers many scholarship opportunities at the postgraduate level, including in-region scholarships, research and short-term visits to Germany, the SPACES (Sciences Partnership for the Assessment of Complex Earth System Processes) Program, winter and summer German language courses, as well as other post-graduate scholarships in areas with relevance to developing countries (EPOS) and in the area of public policy and good governance (PPGG).
