Ekandjo must mind his own business – Fredericks

JESSE JACKSON KAURAISAWINDHOEKNamibia Football Association (NFA) first vice-president Isak Fredericks has raged at MTC executive Tim Ekandjo, advising him to “mind his own business”. At the annual sports awards on Saturday, Ekandjo had told the current NFA leadership to pack their bags and leave. He is the spokesperson for Mobile Telecommunications Limited, which is the main sponsor of football in Namibia.Ekandjo accused the NFA leadership of having dragged the association through the mud.Fredericks believes Ekandjo is not in a position to give the football leaders orders.“We are not moved or shaken by the remarks of Tim Ekandjo because it is not his place to tell us to leave.“We have structures and a proper platform that can remove us, and not some individual who thinks he can just dictate our operations,” Fredericks said.The NFA first vice-president accused Ekandjo of taking sides in the deep divisions within the NFA.Fredericks further accused Ekandjo of not handling his own tournament in Lüderitz well. “Ekandjo has his own problems with the Harders Cup and no one said anything about that.“The president of the association will remain suspended because corruption allegations are serious and we will not lift any suspension because he said so.“He mentioned the names of people who were in the leadership at the time there was no first division football.“This is why we will not even be shaken or moved by what he is saying at the moment,” Fredericks fumed.Congress in December Fredericks confirmed that the regions have succeeded in calling for an extraordinary NFA congress in December. The NFA Exco, tainted by corruption allegations, mismanagement and infighting, could be on its way out. Last month, the Exco appeared to have accepted defeat as most regions proposed an extraordinary congress which is aimed at unseating the current NFA executive and its president, Ranga Haikali.The current Exco is divided into two camps, the first consisting of Isak Fredericks (//Karas), Netty Cloete (//Karas), Peter Ndjulu (Khomas), Iggy Hainghumbi (Ohangwena), Shali Amakali (Oshikoto) and Robert Shimooshili (Namibia Premier Football League representative with no voting rights).Earnest Joy (Kavango West), Kenneth Goaseb (Southern Stream First Division chairman), Tino Haingura (Kavango East) Ferdinand Hausiku (Kavango West) and Ranga Haikali are in the other camp.Neither camp has enough power to call the shots and this has resulted in the association failing to make important decisions. “Yes, the congress could take place in December, but we also have an annual general meeting planned.“We will see how things go because we could actually just combine the things into one,” Fredericks added.
