ECN pawn saga back in court

Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) technical director Milton Louw is expected to make a second appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate's Court in connection with allegedly pawning five commission laptops at Cash Converters.He was arrested last December and charged with the theft of five laptops from his employer. He has since been suspended.During his first appearance, Louw was granted N$4 000 bail and his case was postponed to today for further police investigations.He may not leave the district of Windhoek without informing the investigating officers handling his case. Louw informed the court that he would pay his own legal costs and would be soliciting the services of a private lawyer. Rowan van Wyk represented the State in the matter.A manager at Cash Converters confirmed that Louw had traded in five laptops, but got them back afterwards, upon paying all the money he had borrowed.The laptops were returned back to him before the highly contested 27 November general election last year, Cash Converters confirmed during an earlier interview.Louw was suspended in January.“I can confirm he is suspended,” chief electoral officer Theo Mujoro told Namibian Sun at the time.Staff Reporter
