ECN announces single voting day
The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has announced that this year’s general election will take place on November 28.
Only one day has been set aside for the National Assembly and presidential elections, which were previously conducted over two days.
President Hifikepunye Pohamba is yet to proclaim the date in the Government Gazette.
“Polls at Namibia’s foreign missions across the globe will be conducted on November 14. Similarly, elections for seagoing personnel will be conducted on November 14 both at Lüderitz and Walvis Bay,†said the ECN’s acting chairperson, Ulrich Freyer.
According to him, the nomination process for presidential candidates and submission of party lists for the National Assembly election will start on October 13 and end on October 29.
“On October 29, the ECN chairperson will hold a public sitting at the Elections House from 09:00 until 11:00 to receive nominations.†Following the recent conclusion of the supplementary voter registration, Freyer said that the provisional voters’ register was dispatched to the constituencies yesterday for inspection from today until Friday.
“The notice announcing the availability of the final voters’ register will be gazetted on November 7.
“The ECN is currently putting in place arrangements for the accreditation of foreign and local observers.
“The [regional council] by-elections for the Endola and Windhoek West constituencies will be held on November 7 and 14, respectively,†Freyer said.
