DTA suspends Secretary-General, co-ordinators
DTA of Namibia has suspended its Secretary-General, Vincent Kanyetu, and the two regional coordinators for Kavango East and West amid allegations of serious mismanagement of party assets.
“It has regrettably come to the attention of the DTA of Namibia that various irregular activities have occurred, activities which allegedly involve a number of leaders within the party.
“The party has therefore, forthwith commenced with an investigation into the allegations against the suspected members and/or anyone else that may have been involved in such activities directly or indirectly,” DTA president McHenry Venaani said at a media briefing in Windhoek yesterday.
He said the party would like to make it clear that the suspended members have not been expelled from the party. “We still regard them as DTA members.”
The two regional co-ordinators are Boniface Kashera for Kavango West and Reinhilde Kudimo for Kavango East. Venaani said their deputies, Adriano Simon and Lukas Simbombi, will take over their duties until investigations have been completed.
Venaani said the party will inform the members about the election of an acting Secretary-General.
The suspended members are not allowed to conduct any business in the name of the DTA during their period of suspension.
“Thus, all meetings, communication, transactions or other undertakings by these members during their time of suspension should not be construed to be authentic and legitimate activities of the DTA of Namibia.” Kanyetu told Namibian Sun that he could not comment before consulting a lawyer.
