Don't worry, be happy
A global poll, run by the respected Gallup management consulting company, found that the majority of Namibians, despite experiencing on-going economic and other woes, do not experience stress, anger and worry.
The 2019 Global Emotions Report presents the results from Gallup's latest measurements of people's positive and negative daily experiences based on more than 151 000 interviews with adults in more than 140 countries in 2018.
Among the findings are that only 27% of Namibians experienced stress in 2018, with a whopping 72% saying they are stress-free. Only 1% said they did not know if they had experienced stress last year.
The country with the highest stress levels among its citizens was Greece with 59% experiencing stress, while Turkmenistan experienced the lowest stress, with 89% of its citizens saying they are stress-free.
Meanwhile, the majority of Namibians also indicated that they did not experience anger, with 81% that indicated they did not have any anger and only 19% saying that they experienced anger. In this category, 1% also said that they did not know if they felt anger.
Armenia topped the list globally as the country with the angriest citizens with 45% experiencing anger, while Estonia was the country where citizens felt the least anger. A total of 93% of its citizens indicated that they did not feel anger.
A mere 30% of Namibians indicated that they experienced worry last year, while 69% said that they are without worry and 1% indicated that they did not know.
The report said that Mozambique was the country that worried the most with 63% of its people saying that they worry. The country with the least worries was Taiwan. Only 12% of Taiwanese were worried last year.
With regards to physical pain, 76% of Namibians said that they did not experience pain. Chad was the country where the most physical pain was experienced (66%) and Vietnam experienced the least physical pain, with only 14% of its people saying they had experienced pain.
On the positive side Namibians indicated that they were well-rested, treated with respect and experienced enjoyment amongst others.
According to the report, 75% of Namibians said that they were well-rested, 81% were treated with respect and 65% said they experienced enjoyment.
Furthermore 61% said they learned something the previous day or did something interesting, and 82% said that they smiled or laughed a lot.
Compared to other countries Mongolia was the most well-rested country (86%) and Kuwait, the country with least rested people (28%).
In Ecuador 97% of its people said they were treated with respect while in Afghanistan only 48% felt this. In Paraguay 91% of its people experienced enjoyment and only 41% in Sierra Leone.
In El Salvador 75% of its people said that they learned something the previous day and a mere 22% said so in Bangladesh, while 91% of Nigerians said they smiled or laughed a lot and only 36% indicated that they did in Afghanistan.
