Deputy ministers redeployed
Days after announcing changes to his new cabinet, President Hage Geingob has redeployed deputy ministers and appointed two new ones.
In the cabinet reshuffle some deputy ministers were promoted to ministerial positions.
The two newcomers to deputy minister positions are former Swapo Party Youth League secretary Veikko Nekundi, appointed as deputy minister of public enterprises, and former backbencher Bernadette Jagger, who will serve as deputy environment and tourism minister.
The former deputy minister of fisheries, Chief Samuel Ankama, will replace Christina //Hoebes as the deputy minister in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), while //Hoebes will replace Peya Mushelenga at the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation.
Mushelenga was appointed as minister of urban and rural development to replace Sophia Shaningwa, who had been elected as Swapo secretary-general, which is a full time position.
Maureen Hinda, who served alongside Mushelenga as deputy minister of international relations and cooperation, has been appointed as deputy home affairs minister, replacing Erastus Uutoni who was promoted to youth and sport minister.
Uutoni replaced Jerry Ekandjo, who was fired by Geingob last week.
The former deputy minister of urban and rural development, Sylvia Makgone, replaces Ankama as deputy minister at Fisheries and Marine Resources.
Deputy trade and industry minister Pieter van der Walt has been appointed to the National Planning Commission as deputy minister for economic planning in the Presidency.
Deputy minister of economic planning Lucia Ipumbu has been moved to the Ministry of Industrialisation, Trade and SME Development, while deputy minister of public enterprises Engel Nawatiseb will now be the deputy minister at the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology.
Former tourism deputy minister Tommy Nambahu has also been moved and will serve as deputy minister of labour, industrial relations and employment creation.
