Cycling team ready for eSwatini
The Namibia Cleaning Chemical Solutions (NCCS) Pupkewitz Megabuild cycling team says they are ready to compete at the MTN Khemani Road Classic in eSwatini.
It is the largest and most popular road race in eSwatini, which is recognised by the Union Cycliste International (UCI).
Teams from Namibia, South Africa and the host nation will be competing in the sixth edition of the race tomorrow.
Speaking at a media briefing held in the capital on Wednesday to announce the Pupkewitz Megabuild sponsorship, NCCS cycling team principal and communications manager, Jacob Kiyola, said the team has been training hard ahead of their trip to eSwatini.
“This year we will be competing for the second time in this cycling event and I am confident that our team will do well and probably win something,” he said.
Namibia Cycling Federation (NCF) president, Rolf Adrian, said these types of competitions are important for local cycling. He urged the NCCS team to do well, while competing at the championship.
“As a team you need to have a goal and I am happy that one of your goals is building a team that can compete in international competitions. I hope our riders will do well and hopefully get selected for the national team,” he said.
Pupkewitz Megabuild commercial manager, Jeanne Lowe, said they are happy to have joined hands with the team as sponsors because it is part of their responsibilities to invest in youth development.
“Harold Pupkewitz believed in empowering and investing in our own future; that is why we decided to partner with the NCCS team, because we know they are a young team and will do well for our country, which will in return motivates other young athletes to join the sport,” he said.
The team travelling to eSwatini will consist of Drikus Coetzee, Lotto Petrus, Jafet Amukushu, Johannes Hamunyela, Marckernzy Eiseb and Denzel de Koe, who are riders, while Kiyola and Ebben-Ezer Iita are the management.
