Crunch time for Warriors
Namibia plan to turn the tables on Madagascar in the second leg of a Chan qualifier at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday.
Brave Warriors assistant coach Woody Jacobs says the two preparation matches they played against //Karas and Hardap regional teams have helped them identify areas they need to be improve ahead of Saturday's critical clash against Madagascar.
The Warriors defeated //Karas 4-1 and Hardap 2-1 this past weekend. They face an uphill battle against Madagascar, who beat them 1-0 via a late goal in the away leg of a 2020 African Nations Championship (Chan) qualifier last month.
The second and home leg for the Brave Warriors takes place this Saturday at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
“Many might argue and say that the teams we played are not of a standard, but I can assure you that going out onto the field is way better than just training,” Jacobs said.
“The team is in good spirits ahead of the crunch match and there is certainly room for improvement, with no major injuries at the moment.”
However, Jacobs added that Larry Horaeb will miss the Madagascar clash, as he picked up two yellow cards against Comoros.
“Edward Maova, Wangu Gome and Isaskar Gurirab will propel the team as well. Gurirab couldn't play in the first leg because of injury, but we are glad that he is back and looking good,” added the assistant coach.
“We need to show character and come back stronger at home, because we still have everything to play for,” coach Bobby Samaria said after the first-leg defeat.
Namibia have to win the return leg by at least two goals, and not concede away goals, if they are to reach the competition finals for a second time in a row.
The aggregate winner of this fixture will qualify for the 2020 Chan finals to be held in Cameroon.
