Credit bureaus fall under BON

Long-anticipated new regulations which places the supervision of credit bureaus directly under the domain of the central bank, took effect last week. The new credit bureau regulations were published in the Government Gazette last week, and can be downloaded from www.bon.com.na . “The public is informed that any person engaging, among others, in the business of receiving reports or investigating credit applications, credit agreements, payment history or credit performance information… must apply to the Bank of Namibia for registration as a credit bureau,” Bon Acting Director for Strategic Communication and Financial Sector Development, Emma Haiyambo, said last wek.
