The 57th Association for Local Authorities in Namibia (Alan) congress will be held at the University of Namibia (Unam) Oshakati campus in Oshana Region early next month.
The four-day congress will take place from 5 to 8 July and will be held under the theme ‘Shaping the future of Namibia with the People towards Eradication of Poverty for Sustainable Economic Development’.
Making the announcement on Tuesday, Oshakati Mayor, Katrina Shimbulu said the congress will see 350 various stakeholders that include representatives from the 57 local authorities in Namibia who will deliberate on policy, legislative and developmental issues affecting effective and efficient service delivery in Namibia.
“The congress will attract and will be attended by various guests from within Namibia, SADC, and international countries. The congress also serves as a platform for networking and sharing of best practices while promoting partnerships between interlinking sectors,” Shimbulu said. Shimbulu explained that issues pertaining to financial audit reports of the various local authorities will also be analysed but stressed the fact that sharing of best practices by local authorities will be one of the key aspects of the congress.
Furthermore, she said Oshakati Town Council is prepared to host the event and all issues pertaining to safety, security and health services will be taken care of.
Members of the public are only invited to attend the official opening of the congress on 6 July and Minister of Rural and Urban Development, Sophia Shaningwa will be the guest of honour.
Shimbulu called on companies and individuals who wish to sponsor the hosting of the Alan congress to come forward adding that all sponsored will be acknowledged.
