COSAFAThe Region 5 Games Maseru 2020 will be no exception for Cosafa, with a range of courses, workshops, and festivals to help upskill local referees, coaches, administrators, and players via expert instructors. Here is a list of the off-pitch activities that will leave a lasting legacy in Lesotho:Referee courseThe referees who will officiate at the Region 5 Games Maseru 2020 and some invited guests are being put through their paces with a refresher course ahead of the competition. It is already under way and will end on Sunday, ensuring the match officials are in top condition going into the tournament.D-Licence coaching courseThe course will be held for 20 local aspiring coaches to set them on the path to a career in the game with a D-Licence, which has become a fixture at Cosafa events.The grassroots coaches got put through their paces over a week of intense training that provides a platform for their future careers. It will run from 1 to 8 December.Once coaches have obtained their D-Licence, they can start moving up the coaching ladder, so it is a crucial stage in their development.Administration courseRenowned Fifa instructor Ashford Mamelodi will run a course for 20 budding administrators that will guide them through the finer points of running clubs, associations, and tournaments. This will be hosted at the Thaba Bosiu Cultural Village and run from 3 to 7 December.Girls’ under-15 legacy tournamentTen girls’ under-15 teams from around the region will play in a tournament from 4 to 5 December.It has become a welcome tradition to play competitions in this vital age group at Cosafa events, giving youngsters the chance to showcase their potential.Youth festivalThe Youth Festival, in conjunction with LaLiga Santander, will be held on the same day as the finals in the Boys’ and Girls’ football competitions and will see 8-0 participants put through their paces by the coaches who attended the D-Licence course.There will also be giveaways of equipment and a chance for youngsters to be involved in a fun-filled occasion that celebrates football. Namibia is sending 124 athletes and officials to the biennial youth games, including para-athletes, basketball, tennis and volleyball teams.
