Corridor Group invites trainees
Small and medium enterprises operating in the transport and logistics sector have been urged to consider enrolling in the Walvis Bay Corridor Group’s skills training initiative in partnership with the Business School of Excellence (BSE).
The two organisations are set to host training for up to 30 active SMEs in the local market. Prospective beneficiaries are expected to possess numeracy (mathematics) and literacy levels equal to the Namibia Qualifications Authority’s (NQA) level 2 rating.
Offering beneficiaries the chance to qualify for a National Certificate in Road Transport, the training includes proficiency in road transport operations, basic business management and budgeting principles, basic principles of road transport management, as well as occupational health, safety and environment protection.
“In view of the logistics hub and the infrastructure expansion currently under way, in particular the expansion of the Walvis Bay container terminal, it is important that all supply-chain industries are in coherence,” WBCG Manager for Projects and Funding Immanuel Shipanga said this week.
“This includes the trucking industry which is specifically targeted for this training.”
The course is offered as distance education, with 25 contact classes, and allow selected beneficiaries to enhance their business sustainability and contribute to increased logistics capacity in Namibia.
“The benefits borne out of these capacity-building initiatives also directly extend to other SADC countries such as Zambia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which form part of the Walvis Corridor transport network,” the WBCG said in a statement.
