Poster child for women’s football, Zenatha Coleman plies her trade for Spanish club Valencia and the Namibian women's national team, Brave Gladiators.
The 26-year-old, who was part of the Namibian team at the 2014 African Women's Championship, shares her fantasy squad.
Goalkeeper
For goalkeeper, Coleman would pick Paris Saint-Germain Feminine’s Claudia Christiane Endler. “A modern goalkeeper must be equipped like an infield, playing from player to player. Endler plays from the back and hardly kicks the ball away. She is fantastic in the air and on the ground as well,” she said.
DEFENDERS
French club Olympique Lyon’s Lucy Bronze at right-back is “great at overlapping and back-tracking and can also pass the ball well.”
Coleman’s left back-position would be played by Amel Majri of Lyon. “She is great at passing the ball.”
Their teammate Wendie Renard would play the centre-back position. “She is always cool under pressure and never panics,” Coleman said.
“Another centre-back is Sweden’s Nilla Fischer of Linkopings. She is very reliable, trustworthy, has good communication skills and hardly loses balls.”
Midfielder
“On the right-wing would be Danielle van Donk of Arsenal. She is a work horse. She has the depth to iron out any defensive duties,” Coleman said.
Her fantasy squad anchor would be none other than Dzsenifer Marozsan of Lyon.
“I picked her because my anchor player must be experienced and slower than the two wide midfielders. She’s aggressive enough to win 50/50 situations and, in the same vein, able to control what comes at the team and direct all moves back and forth.”
On left wing, which is a “silent killer”, Coleman picked a footballer “with skill and vision to pass the ball, and that is OL Reign’s Meagan Rapinoe. She can also defend well”.
Forwards
“The right attack will be played by Nikita Parris of Lyon. She has speed and can outsmart the opposition.”
Second best when it comes to one-on-one situations, Coleman said Parris “has speed and can score goals”.
“Marta Vieira da Silva from Orlando Pride would play as my left offensive player. She can backtrack when asked to execute defensive duties. She has pace when going forward and can also play all three positions upfront,” she said.
Placing herself in the middle of the strike force, Coleman said this position needs to be filled by someone who “links offence from midfield, but when needed in the box, with killer instinct can finish off and lay off goals for the two wings”.
Formation
Using a 4-3-3 formation for her fantasy team, Coleman said the squad would be captained by Marta and managed by Jill Ellis, the former United States coach.
‘‘Ellis has vast experience and I like the way she conducts herself on the bench and how she gets along with players.”
