The Namibia Hockey Union (NHU) and its sponsor, Bank Windhoek successfully conducted a three-day coaching clinic for teachers and children of five primary schools at Otjiwarongo in the Otjozondjupa Region recently. A total of 100 learners, 20 from each of the five schools, took part in the three-day event that has been part of Bank Windhoek and the NHU's development programme since 2015.

“With hockey being added to the Namibia Youth Games (NYG), which will take place next year between April and May, all these regions together with other regions already playing hockey, are urged to start preparing their under-14 boys and girls teams between January and April 2019 to compete at the youth games.

“We hope to cover two more regions, Kunene and Omaheke, in January and February 2019, in order to have nine to 11 regions competing at the 2019 youth games in Windhoek,” said Erwin Haindura from the NHU.

NHU and Bank Windhoek have taken hockey to the following regions since 2015: Kavango West (Rundu), Zambezi (Katima Mulilo), Hardap (Mariental), //Karas (Keetmanshoop and Lüderitz), Khomas (Windhoek), Oshana (Oshakati), Hardap (Rietoog) and Otjozondjupa (Otjiwarongo).
