Classic Clashes begin
Netball players displayed fantastic skills in the classic clashes over the weekend at the St Joseph School.
The 2017 First National Bank (FNB) Classic Clashes kicked off on Friday afternoon at Döbra pitting St Joseph's Roman Catholic High School against Eldorado Secondary School in netball.
The two schools produced an entertaining game that saw the host winning the encounter by 34 to 24 points.
St Joseph's displayed great teamwork to dominate their physical opponents and led the first quarter by seven points to two.
Eldorado improved in the second quarter to outscore their opponents by nine points to five, but that was not enough to give them the overall lead.
The Second Quarter ended with St Joseph's 12 and Eldorado 9
In the third quarter, St Josephs upped the tempo and outscored Eldorado by 11 points to nine to stretch their overall lead to 23 points to 18.
St Joseph's continued their dominance till the end, outscoring their opponents by a massive 11 points to six to complete a comfortable victory.
Speaking to Nampa after the game, Vice President and Development Officer of Netball Namibia, Isadore Nel expressed satisfaction with the quality of the netball produced in the game.
“The standard is improving meaning the coaches have worked on some of the weakness of their players. The players who trained with the National under-19 team also displayed maturity, having learnt a lot from that experience.”
She said the logistics went smooth as everything was organised well.
These are the 10th successive Classic Games and are expected to end by 09 September 2017.
The high school tournament sees learners participate in rugby, football and netball.
On Saturday, netball continues with Academia facing Augustinium at Academia Netball Courts from 12:00. Next Friday will see football kicking off with a derby match between St Georges and St Paul's College at the Independence Stadium from 15:00.
