City executive to act as CEO

City of Windhoek Strategic Executive for Human Resources Fillemon Hambunda has been appointed as acting chief executive officer. Hambunda started yesterday and will act until further notice, City spokesperson Joshua Amukugo confirmed on Sunday. Former CEO Nillo Taapopi&rsquo;s term ended on Friday. Taapopi had been with the City since 2004 after taking over from Martin Shipanga who had resigned. Asked about the search for a new CEO, Amukugo said the process is being run by the municipality&rsquo;s human resources department and the office of the mayor. &ldquo;What I know is that the deadline for application has passed and applications have been received. I can&rsquo;t say what the next action is,&rdquo; he said. Namibian Sun was informed that a former parastatal CEO, a CEO from a municipality in the Kunene Region, a strategic executive of the City of Windhoek and an employee from the office of the President had been shortlisted. Amukugo said he could not confirm the names of the candidates and added that no candidates had been shortlisted by Friday last week. A recent media report had it that Mathew //Gowaseb, formerly of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation, is likely to get the position. &ldquo;Let us hear the outcome of the committee. No one can say I prefer this candidate, it is highly unprofessional. Personal liking should not influence the outcome,&rdquo; Amukugo said.
